NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game

NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 predictions by way of a drinking game. Seriously, don’t try this at home.

Money in the Bank weekend means it’s time for NXT TakeOver Chicago, which means it’s time for the NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game!

As usual, this game is presented as a fun way to try to predict the results of an upcoming NXT TakeOver event. We obviously do not advocate actually playing this game due to the extreme nature of the challenge presented here. In other words, don’t try this at home.

Standard Turn Heel drinking game rules apply for the NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game: If you’re playing on “Easy Mode” take a sip of beer or of a mixed drink when the game calls for it. If you’re playing on “Hardcore Mode” take a full shot of hard liquor or down an entire can/bottle of beer each time the game calls for it.

ADDITIONAL DISCLAIMER: Only partake in the consumption of adult beverages if you are of legal age in your locale! (Hi, Facebook!)

It’s a NXT TakeOver, so there are no matches on the Kickoff Show. I’ve gone ahead and made some general rules that apply to both the Kickoff Show and NXT TakeOver event itself.

NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game – General Rules

Take a shot:

Each time Pat McAfee says something stupid on the Kickoff Show panel

If the angle between Pat McAfee and Adam Cole is furthered on the Kickoff Show

Each time we see a wrestler arrive at the arena

If the Iconic Duo (I refuse to call them the IIconics) make an appearance on the Kickoff Show

For each WWE Hall of Famer shown in the crowd

Take 2 shots:

If either Velveteen Dream or Ricochet are interviewed during the Kickoff Show

For each former NXT / Women’s / Tag champion shown in the crowd

If Triple H opens the show in the ring

If EC3 gets a promo or interview segment during the show

Take 3 shots:

If William Regal makes an appearance during the Kickoff Show

If Adam Cole is forced to defend the North American championship in an unadvertised match

If anyone from the UK Division is shown in the crowd

Take 4 shots:

If the show runs longer than 10:30pm Eastern

Chug:

For the duration of each “CM Punk” chant during the broadcast

NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game

NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game - Ricochet, Velveteen Dream

(WWE.com)

Ricochet vs. Velveteen Dream

Take a shot:

Each time Ricochet does something that gets a “Holy Sh*t” chant

If Velveteen Dream has airbrushed tights

If Velveteen Dream’s entrance doesn’t involve any other people

Each time Velveteen Dream goes up for the Purple Rainmaker

For each “both these guys” chant that breaks out

Take 2 shots:

If Velveteen Dream has a Prince Puma mask and/or caricature airbrushed on his tights

Each time both guys trade moves and then stop to face off in a stalemate

If we get an extended sequence where Velveteen Dream copies Ricochet’s signature moves

If either guy gets mic time before the match starts

Take 3 shots:

If Ricochet goes over

If Velveteen Dream kicks out of a 630

If Ricochet kicks out of a Purple Rainmaker

For each “Fight Forever” chant

Take 4 shots:

If Velveteen Dream goes over

If anyone else employed by WWE / NXT factors into the finish of this match

Take 5 shots:

If Velveteen Dream successfully hits a 630 on Ricochet

If the match ends in a no contest, DQ, or count out

Prediction: Ricochet wins, but both guys are boosted by this match. As with the Aleister Black TakeOver match, Velveteen Dream has shown he can absorb a TakeOver loss and manage to get more over while doing so. I kind of expect Velveteen Dream’s big TakeOver win during his NXT time to be a NXT and/or North American title match. Ricochet is in that EC3 territory where he lost in the ladder match and could use a high-profile victory to establish him as a top-level talent for the yellow brand. I think this could be the match that makes Ricochet at NXT and continues the legacy that Velveteen Dream has already been building.

NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game - Undisputed Era, Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch

(WWE.com)

The Undisputed Era (c) vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch (NXT Tag Team Championship Match)

Take a shot:

When Kyle O’Reilly plays his title belt like a guitar

If Adam Cole accompanies Strong & O’Reilly to the ring

If Pete Dunne accompanies Lorcan & Burch to the ring

If Roddy Strong mouths “boom” during the Undisputed Era’s entrance theme

If Marina Shafir is shown sitting at ring side during this match

Each time Roderick Strong hits a backbreaker

Take 2 shots:

If Bobby Fish accompanies Strong & O’Reilly to the ring

If Cole runs in to help the champs

If Dunne has to do a run in to neutralize Cole

Each time Lorcan or Burch connect with a European uppercut

Take 3 shots:

If Lorcan & Burch debut a tag team name for this match

If anyone else associated with British Strong Style / WWE UK gets involved in the match

If Undisputed Era retain after cheating

Take 4 shots:

If Undisputed Era retain cleanly

If Cole, Dunne and/or Bobby Fish don’t factor into the finish in some form

Take 5 shots:

…and NEW NXT Tag Team Champions

Take 10 shots:

If War Raiders come out and destroy whoever wins

Prediction: Undisputed Era retain. I like the Lorcan and Burch tag team, but this doesn’t feel like the time to shift the focus off of Undisputed Era. If this was closer to ‘Mania and a main roster call up felt imminent – maybe. But not here, not now.

NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game - Shayna Baszler, Nikki Cross

(WWE.com)

Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Nikki Cross (NXT Women’s Championship Match)

Take a shot:

Each time Nikki Cross yells something repetitively at Shayna

If Nikki beats the mat with her jacket during her entrance

For each member of the MMA Four Horsewomen (now under WWE contracts) shown in the crowd

If Nikki traps Shayna in the ring skirt outside the ring

Take 2 shots:

For each submission hold Shayna slaps on

For each former NXT Women’s Champion shown in the crowd

If Nikki laughs after absorbing strikes from Shayna

If Ronda Rousey gets involved in the match

Each time Shayna kicks out of the Purge

If Shayna wins clean with the Kirafuda Clutch

Take 3 shots:

If Dakota Kai gets involved

If anyone from SsSaAAnnitTtTyY (or however they’ll spell it on the main roster) gets involved

If the match ends in a no contest

Take 4 shots:

If Shayna loses by DQ or count out

If anyone else in the NXT Women’s division gets involved in the match

Take 5 shots:

If Cross leaves Chicago with the championship belt, but doesn’t win the match

Take 10 shots:

If Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir debut as Shayna’s heaters during or after this match

Take 13 shots:

… and NEW NXT Women’s Champion – Nikki Cross

Prediction: Shayna retains. I love Nikki Cross, but from the jump of the SAnitY “call up” it seemed apparent they needed someone to stick around in the NXT Women’s division to be Shayna’s first TakeOver opponent post-title win. I can’t really see any scenario where Shayna drops the title so quickly. This match feels like water treading until either Kairi Sane or Bianca Belair can challenge Shayna in Brooklyn. But, for a “water treading” title match, this one should still be a ton of fun because Nikki is nuts and that should make for a spectacle.

NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game - Aleister Black, Lars Sullivan

(WWE.com)

Aleister Black (c) vs. Lars Sullivan (NXT Championship Match)

Take a shot:

If the Champion enters first

If someone is attacked during their entrance

If Black’s entrance involves real candles

If Lars has a special “TakeOver entrance”

… and another if that special entrance involves someone playing the piano live

Take 2 shots:

If Black does the backflip into a seated position spot

If Lars catches the Black Mass

For each Freak Accident that Lars delivers

If the match spends a considerable amount of time outside the ring on a show with a Street Fight

Take 3 shots:

Each time Lars kicks out of a Black Mass

If this match goes on last

If Black retains, but it takes more than one Black Mass to do it

Take 4 shots:

If Black retains by way of the title not changing hands because of a count out or DQ

If the match ends in a “no contest”

If someone new debuts during the finish or after the finish of this match

Take 5 shots:

If Black wins clean with a single Black Mass

Take two dozen shots:

… and NEW NXT Champion – Lars Sullivan!

Prediction: Black retains – meaning I predict that no titles change hands on this show. Much like with the women’s division, Lars feels like a stop on the road to Brooklyn for Aleister. Lars is just credible enough of a heel at NXT to have a TakeOver match, but unless Aleister needs to be called up to the main roster *yesterday* for some reason, I don’t see any reason why the top prize in NXT switches holders in Chicago.

NXT TakeOver Chicago 2018 Drinking Game - Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa

(WWE.com)

Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa (Chicago Street Fight)

Take a shot:

If Ciampa comes out wearing jeans

If Gargano comes out wearing jeans

If Candice doesn’t come out with Gargano

For each sequence that involves a kendo stick

For each chair shot

Take 2 shots:

At first blood

If both guys are wearing their usual wrestling gear

For each spot involving a table

Each time someone is rammed into a LED board

If this match doesn’t headline the show

Each time Ciampa waves “bye” at Gargano

Take 3 shots:

If someone’s head gets dunked in the Backstage NXT Ice Chest™

Each time Ciampa’s knee brace is used as a weapon by either man

If more time is spent in the ring than out of it

If Ciampa wins the match via pin fall

Take 4 shots:

If Candice gets involved to help / save Gargano

If anyone gets attacked as the copyright logo is shown on the screen

If Ciampa taps out to the Gargano escape

If William Regal gets involved in the match

Take 5 shots:

If there is at least once sequence that happens on an actual “Chicago street”

If Gargano taps out to the Gargano Escape

If Triple H gets involved in the match

Take 6 shots:

If Candice causes Johnny to lose the match; but it’s unintentional

If anyone “throws in the towel” for either wrestler

If the match ends in a no contest or by ref stoppage

Finish all of the liquor:

If Candice turns on Gargano, intentionally, and leaves with Ciampa

Prediction: This one could really go either way. I suppose it depends on which story they want to tell. Either Gargano makes Ciampa tap for a second time OR Ciampa destroys Gargano so we can reset the same program and keep it going. I’ll go with Gargano winning to, hopefully, put an end to this feud. I was fine with this up until they got Candice so roped into this program they’re burning what could be their top babyface in the women’s division so she can be a prop in the main event feud. I’m over it at this point. Let these two have one big blowout at the scene of the original crime and them move them both to other things.

Well, these are my TakeOver predictions and hopefully the drinking game doesn’t ruin your weekend. I’ll be live Tweeting the show on Twitter and will be back late Saturday night with a full recap of the event. Have fun!
