Time for some post-TakeOver action on WWE NXT 02/07/18. Tonight’s episode will focus on the SAnitY vs. Undisputed Era rivalry. We’re getting Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe getting a tag title rematch against Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly. Also, Killian Dain will be taking on Adam Cole. I imagine we’ll either hear from Gargano or Almas as well. Let’s get to the recap!
WWE NXT 02/07/18 Recap
WWE. Then. Now. Forever. Standard NXT opening credits and we’re taped (originally taped early Feb. 2018) at Center Stage. Mauro welcomes us to the show.
Later tonight? We’re going to hear from Johnny Gargano.
We see the full announce team of Ranallo, McGuinness, and Watson when Undisputed Era’s music hits and they’re out for the tag team title match. As they hit the ring, SAnitY (sans Nikki Cross) rush them through the crowd and a complete brawl breaks out. Refs and security rush the ring and UE eventually all escape to the stage.
Cue William Regal’s music. Regal is out and he is pissed! Regal says this will be settled tonight in a six-man Tag Team Tornado match. SAnitY seems pleased, even though Regal just took away their title rematch.
Meanwhile, Heavy Machinery’s music hits and they’re out for the actual first match of the evening. Riddick Moss and Tino Sabbatelli’s music hits and they’re out next with footage from a month ago when these two teams last met.
Match #1: Heavy Machinery vs. Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli
Moss & Sabbatelli attempt to go over with the old “feet on the ropes for leverage” trick again, but the ref sees it this time. Before long, Heavy Machinery are hitting the Compactor on Tino. Throughout the match, Moss seemed annoyed with Tino – this is accentuated by “Tino Sucks” chants from the Center Stage crowd.
Verdict: Thumbs In The Middle – If this feud gets a “rubber match” it should either be a weight lifting contest or a steak eating contest.
Post-match, Moss refuses to help Tino up and leaves without him. I wonder who gets the sports car after this break up?
Up next? Gargano.
Back from break, Gargano’s music hits, he’s out, and he gets a standing ovation from the crowd. He proceeds to cut a promo that says he may not have won the title at TakeOver but he won something more important – the respect of the fans. Title or no title, he’s still Johnny Gargano – Johnny Freakin’ Wrestling! He won’t forget TakeOver Philadelphia because of his great match and also because of the crutch he took to the back. He calls out Ciampa and says he’s coming for him!
Cue Almas’ music. Andrade and Zelina are out and hit the ring. Zelina cuts a promo saying that she doesn’t care what the fans think and that Johnny shouldn’t even be out there right now. It should be a victory celebration for Andrade instead. Ciampa had nothing to do with Johnny’s loss at TakeOver and Gargano’ not Johnny Wrestling – he’s Johnny Loser. Johnny says his second favorite thing about TakeOver was when his wife hopped the rail and beat the Hell out of Zelina. This causes Zelina to get up in his face and start pointing at him and shoving him. Eventually Candice is out and stands beside Johnny. Candice shoves Zelina out of the ring and Johnny causes Almas to bail as well. From the stage, Zelina cuts a promo saying they’ve beaten Johnny three times and she wonders aloud what it will take to get rid of him. Johnny says if they want him gone, then give him another shot at the title. Zelina says he’ll get one more title match, but if he loses he has to leave NXT. Gargano accepts those terms and Candice looks worried about what Johnny is doing. I’m worried too.
“Earlier today”, Shayna Baszler is getting interviewed by the “press”. She says how the women’s division at NXT is scared of her and if you get in the ring with her your three options are to tap, nap, or snap. When asked about Ember Moon winning at TakeOver, Shayna says there will be no rematch because Ember Moon is scared of her. Shayna alleges that Moon got off “lucky” at TakeOver and she’s not a real champ. Shayna tells the “press” to tell Moon that she said that.
Up next? Bianca Belair.
Next week? Pete Dunne defends the UK Title against Roderick Strong.
Meanwhile, we get an interview with Tyler Bate. Tyler puts over Roderick Strong but says not to count Tyler Bate out just yet. He wants to have more “match of the year” contenders this year with a list of people at NXT.
Next, Bianca Belair is out. Already in the ring? Who knows.
Match #2: Bianca Belair vs. ????
Seriously, I have no idea who this woman is that faces Belair. She gets no chyron and Mauro names her twice in passing and it’s hard to make out her name. It doesn’t really matter though. She wants to shake hands with Bianca to start. Bianca agrees and then won’t release the grip. Bianca pulls her up into a rack and then deposits her on the mat. One inverted powerbomb later and Bianca picks up a win in mere seconds.
Verdict: Thumbs Up – Bianca is great candidate for the next NXT “squash monster” push.
Next, we get a hype video about Kairi Sane.
Up next? Tornado Tag Team match.
Back from break? Next week? Aleister Black will be in action!
Moment ago, Ember Moon tweeted at Shayna Baszler and says she’ll put the NXT Women’s Championship on the line next week!
SAnitY’s music hits and they’re out (sans Nikki Cross). Undisputed Era follow.
Match #3: SAnitY vs. Undisputed Era (Tornado Tag Team Match)
It’s a chaotic match so it’s not super easy to recap. The main talking points here are that NXT hyped this up as “all six men in the ring at once” and then most of the match takes place outside the ring. Also of note, absolutely zero Nikki Cross involvement. I assumed, at the very least, when the match spilled back into the “catacombs” of Center Stage she’d pop out to help her team. But, nope. It’s to the point where I’m seriously wondering if they’re going to split Nikki from the group since they’re rarely seen together any more. Anyway, more than anything this felt like another chance to showcase Killian Dain as a monster. After missing a senton on the outside and going through a table, Dain is able to recover and easily handle all three members of Undisputed Era at once. He looked seriously impressive in this match. The finish comes when Dain hits the Ulster Plantation on Fish to get the three count.
Verdict: Thumbs Up – A fun match and potentially a blow off to the SAnitY vs. Undisputed Era program. UE keeps the titles, but SAnitY got a win in the final six man meeting.
We go off the air on SAnitY celebrating in the ring. And still no Nikki Cross.
