WWE NXT 11/01/17 Recap

Nikki Cross gets revenge on Taynara Conti, Almas signs a contract, and Regal chooses the nuclear option.

WWE NXT 11/01/17 has an announced NXT Tag Team Championship rematch between the Authors of Pain and SAnitY. GM William Regal raised the stakes by stating that only two members of SAnitY are allowed at ring side. Also, Andrade Cien Almas is set to finally “face to face” with NXT Champion Drew McIntyre and ask for his NXT Championship match. Should be a packed show this week – let’s get to the recap!

WWE NXT 11/01/17 Recap

WWE. Then. Now. Forever. Standard NXT opening credits and we’re taped (originally taped 10/04/17) from Full Sail. Mauro welcomes us to the show and introduces Watson and McGuinness. We see a tweet from Drew McIntyre and Regal’s follow-up tweet which confirms that Drew vs. Almas is on for NXT TakeOver. Later tonight? A contract signing for that very match.

Also, later tonight? The Tag Titles are on the line!

Taynara Conti is out next and we can actually hear Mauro on commentary this week! Nikki Cross is out next and they’re going to do this match that I’ve wanted to see for weeks now! The vacant NXT Women’s Championship is sitting on a stand on the stage (much like they did with the NXT Championship in the NXT Catch Up episode I watched yesterday). Nikki looks at it, almost touches it, but instead heads to the ring.

Match #1: Taynara Conti vs. Nikki Cross

This is absolutely the squash match that needed to happen in response to Conti nearly costing Cross a shot at the vacant title. Even when Conti attempts some offense, Nikki essentially no sells it – laughing at getting kicked and asking for more. After a sick looking Death Drop out of the corner, Nikki hits her Swinging Fisherman’s Neckbreaker¬†finisher for the easy win.

Verdict: Thumbs Up – Just what the doctor ordered. Short, but sweet and the closure that was required to put this mini-feud to bed.

Meanwhile, AoP have a dressing room and Paul Ellering is guarding it.

Up next? Johnny Gargano vs. Fabian Aichner.

Back from break, Mercedes Martinez is interviewed by Christy St. Cloud. Mercedes is asked for a pick in the Fatal Four Way and she refrains, but says she knows it won’t be Ember Moon – since Ember can’t win the big one.

Next, Fabian Aichner is out. Gargano enters last.

Match #2: Fabian Aichner vs. Johnny Gargano

Wow, match of the week. This match was about as wild as a game from the 2017 World Series. Back and forth, back and forth, and about as many false finishes as you can fit in a match on weekly NXT. Both guys bring their A-game and Aichner gets the shocking win by countering a Gargano Escape attempt into an abdominal stretch pinning combo. Wow, one of those matches you just have to see to believe. This continues the “Gargano is haunted by Ciampa” storyline and gives Aichner a big boost. Well done.

Verdict: Thumbs Up – Both guys benefit and the match was a barn burner. No complaints.

Post-match, Aichner taunts Gargano from the ramp while Johnny looks crestfallen in the ring.

Later tonight? TAG TEAM MATCH.

Meanwhile, we see Drew McIntyre signing the TakeOver match contract in Regal’s office. Up next? Almas will sign in front of Drew.

An Aleister Black vignette airs which somehow confirms that we’re getting Aleister Black vs. Velveteen Dream at TakeOver.

Next, we see an “earlier today” segment where Street Profits are out admiring a Maserati in the parking lot. Moss and Sabbatelli roll up and claim it is their car. Somehow this devolves into a discussion about Street Profits’ jewelry and thus a feud is born.

After that, Drew’s music hits and he’s out. And, he’s almost immediately jumped from behind by Almas (in a suit). After a short beat down. Zelina Vega hands Almas the contract, he signs, and sticks it to Drew’s body with Zelina’s chewing gum. Almas leaves to boos.

Back from break, commentary runs down the confirmed card for TakeOver up to this point.

“Earlier today”, the Iconic Duo are hanging out mocking “the Pirate” – claiming that Halloween is over (it’s really every day though). Kairi Sane appears and shows them her elbow and leaves. Man, my dream faction of Emma, Billie, and Peyton will never happen now and it just hit me during this segment.

Next week? Billie Kay vs. Kairi Sane.

Meanwhile, SAnitY’s music hits and we’re barely past the half-hour so either this going to be a long main event or one of those 48 minute episodes. Probably the latter. Killian Dain stays in the back as per Regal’s stipulation so SAnitY is represented by Alexander Wolfe and Eric Young tonight. The Authors of Pain (w/ Paul Ellering) are out next. Ellering vanishes after the entrance so I suppose he wasn’t supposed to be ring side either?

Match #3: SAnitY (Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe) vs. Authors of Pain (NXT Tag Team Championship Match)

Normally, I’d be upset with a match this exciting that ends in a no contest, but the post-match implications give this one a major pass. It’s your standard tag match for a while – Wolfe goes in peril but finally makes the hot tag to EY. SAnitY goes on a run, but Rezar breaks up a definite three count to keep the Authors alive. From there, things break down, SAnitY get hit with the Super Collider, EY takes the Last Chapter… and Undisputed Era rush the ring and attack the Authors of Pain getting the match thrown out.

Verdict: Thumbs Up – The match was pretty good, points off for the non-finish, but the post-match more than makes up for that.

As the bell rings, Fish, Cole, and O’Reilly start clearing house and this brings out Killian Dain. Dain gets in a few shots until he too is overwhelmed. Eventually, Roderick Strong comes out. He implies he’s there to help Cole & Friends and even puts on the Undisputed Era arm band. They hold Rezar for him to super kick – and he attacks the Undisputed Era instead. AoP, of all people, come to Strong’s aid and they clear the ring.

This brings out Angry GM Regal who declares that a match will happen at TakeOver between SAnitY, Undisputed Era, and AoP & Roderick Strong. But, not just any match. Regal is bringing back War Games to settle this once and for all. SAnitY sells this like their year has been made and Undisputed Era look angry and worried. Regal also manages to immediately have graphics made up for this as the “TakeOver Houston” Titantron graphic merges into “TakeOver War Games” as he announces it.

We go off the air on the crowd popping massively for the War Games announcement and all three teams reacting to what just happened. Business, my friends, has just picked up.
